A workshop/symposium to explore the potential of a diverse range of archives and museum collections as tools for enquiry and study in the history of medicine.
This will be a unique event organised jointly by: The British Society for the History of Medicine London Museums of Health and Medicine The Health Archives and Records Group
We aim to attract medical historians, archivists, museum curators and others interested in the history of medicine.
The workshop will include:
Mini-presentations on a range of museum and archival collections with speakers from the Royal College of Physicians, Kew Gardens, Lothian Health archives, the Science Museum and the Royal College of GPs; covering topics ranging from oral history collections, genetic history archives, women in medicine, plant material collections and a unique general practice archive.
A networking refreshment break with some online demonstrations of digitised collections.
A panel/audience discussion of topics related to the use of history of medicine collections for historical study.

Worshipful Society of Apothecaries – Diploma Courses.
The Society of Apothecaries is now accepting applications for the History of Medicine and the Philosophy of Medicine courses both leading to the Diploma examinations. The courses run on a Saturday in Apothecaries Hall with visits to the Old Operating Theatre, Wellcome Library, Gordon Museum and more. The courses begin on Saturday, 8 September 2018 and run for 13 Saturdays in the year, some months have two Saturdays.
We offer a student discount on our courses from £800 to £600, examination bursaries are limited and offer a discount on the full fee. Other prizes are available through the John Blair Trust, Hunterian Society and Norah Schuster, please click here

The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh has set up an annual award for history of medicine research, specifically focused on the history of Scottish medicine.
